What is the Sunrider Story?
The Sunrider Corporation was founded on the 2nd of December 1982 by Dr. Tei Fu Chen. The company headquarters are located in Torrance, California.
As a young child Dr. Chen was physically weak and his grandfather used the principles of exercise and fitness coupled with the herbal formulations to help Tei Fu overcome his weaknesses and to develop a healthy body. He went on to excel in martial arts and earned black belts in Karate, Judo, Kendo and Aikido. He became the Taiwanese National Judo and Kung Fu Champion, titles he successfully defended.
He is heir to certain ancient herbal manuscripts of the Chinese Emperors on which have been recorded 5,000 years of intense research and formulation. Dr. Chen’s grandfather was the guardian of these manuscripts which contained the herbal secrets that were so fervently sought after.
Dr. Chen’s grandfather began teaching him from the manuscripts at the age of eight. His education was further enhanced in medical school and then in pharmacology and biochemical research after coming to the United States.
As a result of his own childhood experience, education and traditional training, Tei Fu Chen became an expert in traditional Chinese herbalism, and in keeping with Chinese custom and tradition he is referred to as Doctor. He has a degree in Pharmacology, and is a research biochemist. His wife, Dr. Oi Lin Chen is a doctor of Western medicine.
The manuscripts handed down to Dr. Chen have come together with modern research, processing and education. Success has come from this meeting of ideas, cultures and people.

CHINESE MANUSCRIPTS – Sunrider products are based on the ancient nutritional practices which were preserved on manuscripts formerly owned by Chinese Emperors.

Do you sell Sunrider® products in retail stores?
Sunrider® products are sold through our IBOs. You may also buy products directly from Sunrider. Traditional retailing involves tremendously high costs such as leasing stores, paying management and employees, and advertising. What is the Philosophy of Regeneration?
Dr. Tei-Fu Chen, developed the Philosophy of Regeneration™ after thorough study of Chinese and Western medicines. According to the Philosophy of Regeneration™, the body can balance and "regenerate" itself by nourishing and cleansing the body with the proper nutrition. Thus, all Sunrider® products are exclusively formulated to keep a balance between yin (nourish) and yang (cleanse) and the body's five systems. Sunrider® products help maintain good health, but are not intend to treat or cure diseases that require medical attention.
Some brands may use generic formulations without understanding how the body works, but Sunrider® products are exclusively formulated to work in harmony with the body.

Occasionally Sunrider IBOs ask why some of our labels and marketing literature contain warnings such as those found on our SPF products. They feel that because our products are safe there is no need for warnings and are worried that warnings might even hurt sales. While it is true that our products are safe and manufactured according to our strict quality control standards, federal and/or state law sometimes requires certain products sold in the U.S. to carry very specific warning statements.
For instance, all products that contain a sun protection factor (SPF) are considered to be over-the-counter drugs (OTCs) by the FDA and are required to carry a warning on the label that includes a statement that the product is for external use only, should be kept out of the reach of children and to discontinue use of the product if irritation or a rash appears. Therefore, because products such as Oi-Lin® Natural Emulsion contain an SPF of 30, Sunrider complies with the law by carrying the required warning on the label.
Even some dietary supplements require a warning if certain ingredients are in the product. California state law requires a very specific statement regarding the possible laxative effect of Cassia tora even if there has never been a complaint about a particular product containing this botanical. Therefore, because Cassia tora is one of the ingredients in Sunrider's Sportcaps dietary supplement, the required warning appears on the label and has so since 1998 with no negative effect on sales.
